Emergency Evacuation Checklist for Pets

In the event of an emergency, having a well-prepared evacuation plan for your pet is essential. This checklist will help ensure you have everything you need to keep your pet safe and comfortable during an evacuation.

  • Pet first-aid kit (you can purchase or make your own)
  • 7-10 days’ worth of canned (pop-top) or dry food (be sure to rotate every two months)
  • Disposable litter trays
  • Litter or potty pads
  • Paper towel roll
  • Liquid dish soap and disinfectant
  • Disposable garbage bags for clean-up
  • Pet feeding dishes and water bowls
  • Extra collar or harness as well as an extra leash
  • Photocopies and/or USB flash drive containing vaccine and pertinent medical records
  • Waterproof container with a two-week supply of any medicine your pet requires (rotate every two months)
  • At least seven days’ worth of bottled water for each pet (store in a cool, dry place and replace every two months)
  • A travel crate or sturdy carrier, ideally one per pet
  • Flashlight
  • Favorite blanket or bed
  • Recent photos of your pets (in case you are separated and need to make “Lost” posters)
  • Pheromone or CBD calming aid
  • Favorite treats
  • Favorite toys

By preparing these items in advance, you can ensure a smoother and less stressful evacuation process for both you and your pet. Remember, the key to safety is preparation. Stay ready and keep your pet protected!
